A Difficult Job Market
Wayne grew up on a farm in Western Kansas and, after developing a successful career in data analysis in California and Texas, bought a house in his home state to live closer to his lifelong friends.
Unexpectedly, however, Wayne was laid off last fall, leaving him facing the challenge of finding a new job. “My problem is, I’m a little bit older,” he says. “So I’m competing against 30-year-olds for the same positions, which makes it more difficult.” In the meantime, he used his expertise and innovative mind to start his own company doing financial analysis and works with the stock market to pay the bills. But his true goal remains clear: “I’d like to go back to work full-time for a number of years until I retire.”
Turning to Truehold
While surveying his financial situation, Wayne realized: “I needed the cash, and I had equity in my home.” He began exploring traditional options like home equity lines of credit, but quickly hit a roadblock. “I needed a job to secure a loan, and being jobless, that was a no-go,” he recalls. Since he works from home, selling and moving also didn’t seem like a viable option.
Then, he remembered Truehold, a company he had heard of years before. He decided to follow up, requesting an updated estimate on his home, and was impressed with how responsive and helpful the team was. He thought Truehold’s offer was fair, especially compared to other options: “I had looked at several other companies, and [their offers] were on the lower side, and they didn’t seem like they wanted to budge.”
“I had heard good results of Truehold and it just felt right. Truehold seemed like they were responsive and answered all my questions in a timely manner, and I'm really glad that I did go with Truehold,” he said.

Finding Financial Flexibility
As a computer enthusiast himself, Wayne was appreciative of Truehold’s consumer-friendly process: “I did everything from my couch via a computer or phone. The home inspection, I did that scheduling online. The closing was done through a virtual notary. The process was closed all on the predetermined date, and the funds were wired to my account. I couldn't be happier with the closing process.”
The flexibility of Truehold has allowed him to continue working from home, and most importantly, gave him the financial breathing room to continue his job search. “I didn’t want to leave my home, and Truehold allowed me to stay,” he reflects. He knows that financial difficulties can happen to anyone, and his story is a powerful reminder that finding the right solution is key.
